Microsoft chief confident in new security measures.
During a telephone press conference,
Microsoft
Platform Products and Services Co-president Jim Allchin revealed that he lets his son go online without anti-virus software to protect his computer from malware.
While describing some of the new security features included in the forthcoming operating system, Allchin used the example of his son, who he feels is adequately protected by the parental and system controls included with
Vista
.
After discussing the merits of features such as Address Space Layout Randomization, and the two-year-old
Defense-in-Depth
project, Allchin admitted that
Vista
wasn’t perfect and that the security would be broken by increasingly sophisticated hackers, but added that his confidence in the blocks on downloading and installing software was high enough to allow his seven-year-old to surf the web without additional protection. ‘It’s certainly the most secure system that we’ve shipped,’ he said.
