‘Magic Quadrant’ study unveiled


AV industry future revealed – must do better.

Industry analyst and predictor

Gartner

has released its annual ‘Magic Quadrant’ study of the current state and likely future of the AV industry, focusing specifically on major players in the enterprise market.

Entrants are rated on ‘completeness of vision’ (later defined as market understanding, marketing strategy, sales strategy among other criteria) and ‘ability to execute’ (which includes products and services offered and business ‘viability’, as well as sales and marketing ‘execution’).

McAfee

,

Symantec

and

Trend

are all tagged as industry ‘leaders’, with

Sophos

a ‘challenger’, while

Panda

and

F-Secure

are ‘visionaries’ and

CA

is given the dreaded ‘niche player’ rating.

Among predictions for the future, vendors are recommended to join the movement to consolidate offerings into more streamlined and feature-rich suites, and told to improve heuristic, generic and behavioural detection.

Microsoft

‘s enterprise product, due next year, is expected to take 20% of the small business market within two years of release.
