UK ISP association issues spam guidelines

ISPA best practices document advises providers on spam control.

Internet Services Providers’ Association

(ISPA), a voluntary grouping of service providers and other Internet firms, has issued a set of guidelines aimed at helping ISPs combat spam both as it arrives at their networks and should it originate from within them.

The list of measures and techniques, which are recommendations only with no power of enforcement, include advice on ensuring correct attribution of mail sources, avoiding providing open relays for spam, and educating users about the spam problem and efforts being made to combat it. It also recommends implementing processes to take legal action against abusers, and publicising any such action to discourage further abuse.
