Infosecurity Europe, BSides London and the Security Bloggers Meetup.
June is the new April, at least for the security industry, as its traditional get-together in London (
Infosecurity Europe
) has been moved from the last week of April to the first week of June.
Infosecurity Europe
is primarily a trade show, so it is pretty heavy on sales and marketing (you’ll have your
buzzword bingo
scorecard completed within half an hour), but if you are more interested in the technical side of things, you’ll still find plenty of things to enjoy, if only because of the many experts who will be walking around the show floor.
Virus Bulletin
doesn’t have a booth, but a few of us will be attending the show on Tuesday — do say ‘hi’ if you see us, or drop us an
email
if you want to have a chat. (This is
not
an invitation for sales pitches!)

For those who prefer a more tech-focused event, London is still the place to go: on Wednesday 3 June, the fifth edition of
BSides London
takes place. The
BSides
concept has become rather successful in recent years, with the London event probably being the biggest on this side of the Atlantic.
Indeed, one of
BSides
‘ founders, Jack Daniel of
Tenable Network Security
, will be
inducted
into the
Infosecurity Europe Hall of Fame
this June, where he joins the likes of Mikko Hyppönen, Eugene Kaspersky, Dan Kaminsky and Bruce Schneier.
Not only will I be attending
BSides London
, but I will be giving a
presentation
at the event, ‘Elliptic curve cryptography for those who are afraid of maths’, in which I intend to give a low-level introduction to the fascinating topic of elliptic curve cryptography.

Finally, on the evening of the same day, I will be attending the traditional
Security Bloggers Meetup
.
Apart from being a great opportunity to meet fellow security bloggers, this is also where the winners of the
European Security Blogger Awards
will be announced.
Virus Bulletin
is honoured to have been nominated in no fewer than five categories. Voting closes on 29 May.
