VB2020 TIPS presentation: Collaborating with Competitors: A Better Strategy to Beat Adversaries

As part of VB2020 localhost we were proud to co-host the Threat Intelligence Practitioners’ Summit (TIPS), put together by the Cyber Threat Alliance. In a series of blog posts we highlight some of the talks presented in the Summit and the important contribution of threat intelligence sharing.

Threat intelligence sharing has steadily been improving over the past 30 years, yet, despite these improvements, it still faces a variety of obstacles, including market disincentives to sharing, privacy concerns relating to the information being shared, and inefficiencies in building trust among sharers.

With overwhelming evidence that intelligence sharing beyond current levels could protect thousands of vulnerable organisations from breach, how do we address these issues?

In the opening keynote of the Threat Intelligence Practitioners’ Summit, Joe Levy, CTO of

Sophos

, introduced three provocations designed to make us think differently about these seemingly intractable problems, and urged the security industry to embrace the African proverb: “If you want to go quickly, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together.”
