As part of VB2020 localhost we were proud to co-host the Threat Intelligence Practitioners’ Summit (TIPS), put together by the Cyber Threat Alliance. In a series of blog posts we highlight some of the talks presented in the Summit and the important contribution of threat intelligence sharing.
As globalisation continues apace, supply chains have become incredibly complex and with that, incredibly insecure.
The supply chains of global brands may be made up of tens of thousands or even
hundreds of thousands
of suppliers – making it near to impossible for organisations to understand who all those partners are within their networks and, importantly, their levels of security. As such, the attack surface has widened to an unprecedented extent and supply chain attacks are on the rise:
- According to one study, supply chain attacks increased by 78% in 2019.
- Estimates indicate that around 60% of data breaches are linked to third parties.
- There has been a 1000% increase in financial crimes linked to third parties.
- There has been a 430% rise in sophisticated ‘Next-gen’ supply chain attacks.
Clearly, securing such a complex ecosystem presents a difficult challenge and one that can benefit from a communal effort.

, discussed the necessity of gaining visibility across the entire supply chain ecosystem, the focus on new regulations and compliance to ensure trusted security standards, and the essential role of threat intelligence sharing in boosting communal security.
