Trend, F-Secure add extra layer to smartphone security.
Two new products have been unveiled this week offering firewall protection for smartphones and PDAs, with both
Trend Micro
and
F-Secure
adding the functionality into their Mobile Security products.
Trend
announced on Monday its latest product,
Trend Micro Mobile Security 3.0
, would contain firewall protection in addition to improvements to malware and SMS spam detection. The product is available now for
Windows Mobile
platforms, while
Symbian
-compatible versions are expected in early 2007.
F-Secure
meanwhile has added its own firewall to
F-Secure Mobile Security
, pointing out the risks of using smartphones in public wi-fi zones, and boasts of having the first full security suite to support
S60 3rd Edition
and
Symbian OS v9
.
‘Mobile security is becoming increasingly big business,’ said
John Hawes
, Technical Consultant at Virus Bulletin. ‘We’ve seen more companies moving into the mobile AV market, and new products designed to filter spam and malware at the network level as well as on handsets. There’s little doubt that as the dangers and the markets grow, we’ll see further expansion of product ranges to counter the latest threats.’
