AV guru Jimmy Kuo heads to Microsoft


Industry veteran joins others from McAfee.

Jimmy Kuo, the widely respected virus expert and popular speaker, has left

McAfee

after over ten years working in their

AVERT

labs, to join the fast-expanding security response team at

Microsoft

.

Kuo follows several other industry heavyweights leaving their respective posts in recent months, including former

McAfee AVERT

spokesman Vincent Gullotto, who has also joined the Redmond team, as well as former

Virus Bulletin

technical editor Fraser Howard, who has joined

Sophos

as a Principal Virus Researcher after spending some years with

McAfee

. Larry Bridwell, until recently Content Security Programs Manager of

iCSA Labs

, took up his new post as Vice President of Communications at

Grisoft

last month.

Prior to joining

McAfee

in 1995, Kuo also headed

Symantec

‘s labs. His role at

Microsoft

is expected to be as a senior security researcher or, as some rumours have put it, ‘roving AV guru’.
