Security firm suffers security bug and incompatibility criticism.
After announcing on Friday the discovery of a vulnerability in its
Backup Exec
software,
Symantec
suffered press criticism when the beta of its forthcoming
Norton Confidential
anti-phishing software was revealed to be incompatible with current versions of
Norton AntiVirus
, and other security software from the firm.
Symantec
has issued patches to fix the overflow problem in
Backup Exec
, while beta testers must uninstall any copies of
Norton
AV, IS, Personal Firewall or
SystemWorks
to try out the new technology. The anti-phishing tools are expected to be merged into the future
Norton 360
all-in-one security suite.
