MyDoom, YourDoom, OurDoom

SCO offers a bounty for the arrest of the MyDoom author, Bruce Perens offers a conspiracy theory…

SCO is

offering a reward

for information leading to the arrest of the author of MyDoom – a worm that launches a denial of service attack on the SCO website. Meanwhile, Bruce Perens has issued

a call to the open-source community

urging them to refrain from ‘cheering on the MyDOOM virus, as it would falsely implicate the FOSS communities and almost certainly cause the success of the virus writer’s mission of discrediting these movements.’

He seems to be a little late, however –

various reports suggest

that the general media are under the strong impression that the virus was written by a disaffected Linux advocate. Perhaps the Linux-using community would do well to learn that, in the words of the great Stephen Covey, ‘You can’t talk your way out of

a problem you behaved your way into

.’
